As President of Local 70713, I am pleased to be able to share with our members a letter of thanks that was sent to our National President (of the Union of Environment Workers – UEW) Mr. Todd Panas. Even though this is a story about a member from another Local, her story is worth sharing as it is a great example of the kind of service and support being provided by our National UEW President, the National UEW office, and at all other levels of representation. I think it is important that we communicate the benefits of union membership and for members to know the kind of support that is being provided.
I am pleased to be able to share this letter (names have been removed to protect the privacy of the individuals involved) with our members and congratulate all those involved in this particular success story on a job well done.
President, Local 70713
The following is taken from a letter sent by a thankful PSAC member to National President UEW, Mr. Todd Panas:
Union of Environment Workers (UEW)
First of all, I would like to personally thank you on your prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubliee Medal award. I fully support your nomination and cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award than you.
Secondly, I would like to personally thank you for taking a personal interest in my case. Through persistent interventions and the dedication and strong support of your Service Officer, as well as the support of my local president, and my completely committed and devoted local union representative, my quest for a fair and equitable treatment was achieved and my lay-off notice rescinded.
After more than 15 physically and emotionally challenging months, my Public Service Staffing Tribunal (PSST) complaint, my Canadian Human Rights complaint and my two grievances were resolved following a successful mediation process. I know that this career-saving victory would not have been possible without my collective agreement and tireless union representation.
I am truly fortunate and proud to be a dedicated member of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and to have you as my UEW National President and part of my professional network.
