Little Habits That Can Change Your Life, and How to Develop Them

Jackie Lee Agnew

“We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”  Aristotle

Life is so stressful and we all have hundreds of things on the go.  Add to that Facebook, Twitter, email and cell phone us – many of us are now on call 7days a week, from sun-up to sun-down.  How can we make life easier?  Would you leave the cell phone downstairs at night or shut off during dinner? Would you take a break from Facebook?  I have written down some of the habits that I am practicing to help recreate my life. I hope you enjoy them.

Ask a Life Coach: Finances

Dear Jackie,

I am in a financial mess.  I have bill collectors calling and I live in fear of my wages being garnisheed.  I use money marts and high interest loans to pay off my debts then I can’t pay that off.  I am using credit to pay credit.  Please help.

Ask a Life Coach: Affairs

Q: Dear Jackie,

I did something really stupid and had an affair with a married coworker.  Now each and every day at work is sheer hell, filled with rumors and nastiness.  I can’t take this anymore and don’t know what to do.  The person I had the affair with is making my working life unbearable.  He has told the office staff that I was stalking him and that he made me stop, but I was the one who ended the relationship because he was not ready to leave his wife or to tell her that he is gay.  I really cared about this person but now I am happy it didn’t work out as I have seen his true side.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Confused and Angry.

Q: Dear Jackie,

I am a married mother of two wonderful children.  My husband and I have been having some troubles lately and I have a friend at work who I talk to.  This friend is male and I am developing feeling for him.  He is so supportive and kind to me.  I know he feels the same way.  We have kissed and gone to dinner and movies a few times.  I am so happy when I am with him but I feel so guilty.  I don’t want to just give up on nine years of marriage, but I can’t my husband and I working it out.  What do I do?

Ask a Life Coach: Attracted to Boss

Q: Dear Jackie,

My problem is embarrassing I am attracted to my boss and I know the feeling is mutual.  He always tells me I look nice, or smell good.  We have worked late a few nights and he has rubbed my shoulders and touches my hair.  You can feel the sexual tension in the air whenever we are together.  Now he has invited me to a conference in Toronto and I am so nervous.  I want this to happen but I am terrified it will ruin our working relationship.  Please help.

Ask a Lifecoach: Office Romances

Over the last few months I have received many questions regarding office romances.  I have decided to answer all of them in one posting.  I myself feel that office romance is never a good thing and although there have been some exceptions to the rule, for the most part it ends up causing workplace friction, rumours and a whole lot of tension after all is said and done.

Ask a Life Coach: Performance Appraisals

Question:

Dear Jackie Lee,

I just received my yearly performance appraisal and it wasn’t as good as I had hoped. There were a lot of areas I am expected to improve on, that I thought I was doing great at. I work hard but now I feel like I just want to quit.

How could my manager do this?

I’ve talked with my co-workers, and they feel that I am being treated unfairly as well.

What do I do?

Thanks,

Luc
