Question:
Dear Jackie,
I am working in a place that is filled with gossipers. All they do is talk about everyone else and it is stressing me out. I can’t even eat my lunch in peace.
What do I do?
Kate
Answer:
Dear Kate,
- Ignore it!
- Ignore it!
- Ignore it!
I don’t mean to sound like I’m not taking you seriously but if gossip doesn’t have an ear to listen it will stop. As for your lunch the best thing you can do is to take your lunch and leave the office, go outside for fresh air and leave the gossipers behind. It will also help with your stress. When someone starts gossiping to you, just say, I don’t mean to be rude but I really don’t want to hear gossip. Please can we focus on work? They will be upset, but the gossipers will quickly find another target.
There is no reason for you to be stressed out. Just remove yourself from the mix.
Hope this helps,
Jackie
